Tip Tuesday #1 - Rose Bush Trimming

"Hey everyone, it’s Will with S & S Landscaping & Nursery for your Tuesday tip of the day. So, I figured this time of year we’d talk about trimming rose bushes.

Something very simple you can do at your house. Don’t need any gas-powered equipment. You need one good pair of trimming shears that are sharp, possibly some gloves because of course they have thorns on them. I’m going to show you two trimming techniques you can use at your house. I’ll show you my favorite one. A less invasive trimming technique would be starting at the bud line, going around and following the bud line all the way around the rose bush plant. This doesn’t take off as much foliage from your rose bush, but my personal favorite is to go down to the bottom of the rose bush where you have six to eight inches of growth left after you get done trimming and really cut back this rose bush hard. When you get done, like I said, you’ll have six to eight inches of growth left. In return, what you will get come springtime is a rose bush that is thicker and fuller, and I personally think they come back healthier when they are cut back hard like that.

So, Tuesday Tip of Day, a good pair of hand trimmers, some gloves, that’s all you need. Have a good Tuesday, and we’ll see y’all next week."
